For sale here is 1oz of Oregon foraged Amanita mushrooms. This item listing is for BUTTONS ONLY. These are mushrooms whose caps have not yet begun to open. It is true across a variety of species that the younger buttons are more potent in odor and flavor. They are the most desired state of any mushroom.
They were foraged on the Oregon coast and in the Oregon Valley in Fall and Winter 2025. Not for human consumption.
Recent changes to Amanita muscaria in North America:
In recent years, the mushroom known as Amanita muscaria in North America has undergone a taxonomic change.
Genetic sequencing on specimens collected in North America indicate that the "Amanita muscaria" that grows here is its own distinct phylogenetic species, of which we have four different color variants here in the PNW. They are now referred to as Amanita chrysoblema, or the North American Fly Agaric.
Nothing has fundamentally changed about the mushrooms themselves. They are still the same mushrooms they have always been - we just call them something else. They still contain ibotenic acid and muscimol. They do NOT contain amatoxins.
We have a red variant, an orange variant, a red-orange variant and a yellow-orange variant. As more samples are collected and genetically sequenced, it is likely these fungi will have new names also.
If you've been buying A muscaria from vendors in America, you've really been buying mushrooms now known as A chrysoblema. Amanita muscaria only grows in Europe with some specimens collected in the most Northwestern parts of Alaska.
The responsibility falls on me as a teacher to speak accurately and correctly. I believe in full transparency and education when it comes to mushrooms.
