Foraging Lessons

Now Booking: 2026 Foraging Lessons

Greetings! I am now booking 2026 Mushroom Foraging lessons.

I have been an outdoorsman my whole life and have been foraging mushrooms, berries and plants in Oregon for the last ten years. My goal is to teach you how to harvest safely and responsibly within Oregon's laws and regulations.

I scout my locations in advance and can adjust last-minute for any weather events that would negatively affect our outing. In short, I do everything in my power to ensure my clients have a great day in the woods and can go home with mushrooms.

I host my lessons in a variety of habitats and environments. I can work with you on locations from Hammond to Newport on the coast, within the coast range, or in the Willamette Valley. I have beginner-friendly locations frequented by local dog walkers and park regulars, or we can head into more backwoods locations if you're already comfortable hiking in the forest.

Some of my clients prefer to learn a variety of mushroom species while some prefer to target specific mushrooms. I'm happy to accommodate both and help you narrow your focus to increase your likelihood of success.

My rate is $50/hr per person, or 4 students for 4 hours at $500. I require a 2 hour deposit to secure a date and time or payment in full for large groups. Some clients decide to stay out longer than two hours and any remaining time can be paid when we get back.

I also provide all of my clients with detailed foraging summaries that cover all of the day's teachable moments. This allows you to focus on having fun and finding mushrooms instead of memorizing a lot of new concepts. You can then refer back to this material and continue your research right where we left off.

- Calendar -

Yellow morel season begins in the valley March 1st. I always recommend hitting it early and hitting it hard since it is one of our most finicky seasons. Black morels start in the Cascades around mid April. Berry season begins in May along with our coastal forests (Agaricus, oysters, berries). This type of Spring/Summer foraging ends the first week of July.

Fall mushrooms begin in August at higher elevations (lobsters, chanterelles, cauliflower, chicken of the woods). I will be on the coast from October to Thanksgiving for porcini, matsutake, and chanterelles. If it stays warm again this year I will be teaching matsutake until just before Christmas. I will continue to hunt chanterelles in warmer inland pockets until the roads freeze.
